Orthotics

Custom molded orthotics are insoles that are molded to fit the exact shape of  your feet.  They are an effective treatment for a variety of foot conditions, such as plantar fasciitis.  Dr. Carter usually recommends that his patients try an over the counter arch support first. They are inexpensive and readily available locally.  However, when an over the counter arch support does not provide enough support, a pair of custom molded orthotics is an appropriate treatment.

Orthotics are made from a casting of your feet. The shape of the cast is critical in determining the shape of the orthotic.  Dr. Carter always performs the casting himself to ensure that it is done correctly. He also contacts patients two to four weeks after dispensing the orthotics to verify that they are comfortable, and that they have been an effective treatment.

We have selected Sole Supports to make our orthotics because we believe they make the best orthotics available.

Does health insurance cover the cost of orthotics?

A pair of custom molded orthotics costs $395. You can call the number on the back of your insurance card to find out if your plan covers orthotics. Ask if "Custom Molded Orthotics" are covered under your plan. They may want a billing or procedure code. The code is "L3000". You should also ask if a pre-authorization is required. We are happy to provide your insurance company with a pre-authorization letter if they require it. Another question you need to ask is if they cover more than one pair. Some insurance plans will cover one pair of custom molded orthotics per calendar year. It is also a good idea to find out if you have a deductable that will apply.
